The Bison Transport Sport LeadHERship Series is back this year, with the first session on Thursday, October 13th at 7 p.m.
For this session, titled She Makes the Call: Officials in Sport, the panel will discuss how officiating is a great way to stay involved in sport beyond playing and coaching. We will also dive into how to become an official, why it’s important to build a network of women in sport, and how we can all be advocates for female officials.
We will speak with three female officials who all bring unique perspectives of their time spent officiating. Amy Martin is an official in elite hockey, refereeing at Hockey Canada and IIHF events. Jane Edstrom is an athletics official with decades of experience at the international and Olympic levels. Julianne Zussman’s love and dedication to rugby allowed her to transition from a high-level player to official and has been reffing at the international and Olympic level since.
Officials are fundamental to the success of the sport system, and while there are still many barriers to be broken for women in sport, we are seeing more females at all levels officiating and making the important calls.
