The Canadian Association of Basketball Officials awards long-time official, Dave Morphy, the 2009 CABO Wink Willox Award! At CABO's recent Annual General Meeting (September 18-20, 2009) in St. John's, Newfoundland, Dave Morphy was awarded the 2009 Wink Willox Award for Manitoba.
Dave has been an active official for the last 39 years. He started officiating as part of the Calgary/Alberta Board in 1970 and worked all levels of basketball there for eleven years before moving to Winnipeg. Dave joined the Manitoba board in 1981 and is still an active official. He has officiated all levels in Manitoba – high school, senior men’s/women’s, and university men’s and women’s. Dave has also officiated at several national championships, including the Canada Games, CCAA, and CIS Women.
Dave has been very active in the administration end of basketball. He was the President of the Calgary board and represented Alberta on the CABO council. In Manitoba, he was the Provincial Interpreter for several years and represented Manitoba on the CABO council. He is currently on his third term as President of MABO and continues to assign a local high school conference. Dave was also a member of the CABO Executive for 15 years, serving as Treasurer, Vice- President and President.
As an evaluator, Dave has been on CABO’s national evaluation panel for 12 years and has evaluated at CCAA, CIS Women’s, and CIS Men’s championships. He was part of the evaluation teams at the CABO camps and is a provincial evaluator for MABO.
Dave was officially presented with his award at the MABO Clinic on October 17, 2009.
